Indian students offer sympathy to latest street crime victim Luke Adams

FISA would like to extend sympathy to Luke Adams and his family after the vicious attack on him in Chapel Street Prahran.

The Indian student community is well aware of the personal cost of such attacks and the pain and worry it causes the victim’s families.

A few moments of frenzied violence by these thugs in this case can mean months of rehabilitation and medical treatment and then the victims are left with emotional and physical scars.

'Like everyone living in Victoria Indian students are disgusted by the senseless violence that is being inflicted on innocent individuals like Luke on Melbourne’s streets'. said Gautam Gupta.

'While Indian students remain over represented in street crime statistics our heart goes out to all people who are affected by street crime in Victoria'. said Gautam Gupta.

'No one can sit with the victims of the families and not think that we must do more to stop the current wave of street crime in Victoria. The cost is not just physical it sends shock waves of trauma through the victims families.'

We therefore call on the Victorian government to increase surveillance and policing at late night and all night areas and increase sentencing for the perpetrators of such terrible crimes.

FISA remains ready and willing to work with the Police, the families of victims of street crimes in Victoria as well as governments at all levels to help make our streets safe and stop the growing street crime wave that is a threat to all in the Victorian community.
